Well, I have to have a pirate costume, right? The second Pirates movie was coming out soon and I needed a halloween costume, and I loved Jack Sparrow's character. However, since so many great costuming guys had already done a really amazing Jack, I felt I needed something a little different. So, I made a female pirate, but used most of Jack's costume elements. It was a lot of fun, even if the coat weighs a ton (about 10 hards of heavy brocade and 110 brass buttons). My favorite part was distressing the costume. Since the brocade had a small amount of lyrca in it, the normal sandpaper/wire brush wasn't even putting a dent in the fabric. So, out came the dremel and belt sander (a first for me!) Wonderful, detailed wear patterns in a fraction of the time!
