Arwen from Fellowship of the Ring

Worn At: The Two Towers Line Party, December 2002

This costume was constructed with the invaluable help of the Lord of the Rings Costume website... Obviously, I changed the color (couldn't find that lovely blue/gray suede/ultra suede to save my life. Especially not the quality I needed). This is version 1.0. I concentrated on solving what I felt were the most complex parts, the sleeves and the collar. While not a hundred percent happy with the finished outcome, I felt that my solutions to the challenges presented by the design are suitable.

Arwen's lower sleeves were a wrap around, leaf style sleeve, that had a diagonal upper sleeve. The design rendering in The Art of Fellowship of the Ring provided an invaluable resource to complete the pattern. However, constructing such a sleeve was quite difficult. The upper sleeve is a two part sleeve, with the outer point descending one inch past the elbow.

The lower sleeve was a 1/2 circle, cut on the bias and graded to follow the point of the sleeve. The collar was a rolled collar, with chenille yarn sewn on the facing in a random pattern to duplicate the webbing on the original. The belt buckle was constructed out of scupley and then cast into resin.
